Introducing Double Pom

When my sisters and I grew up in the 1970s and 1980s, we aspired to wear rainbow T-shirts, Jordache jeans, and pom-pom socks all the time. We loved their colors and designs—remember that Jordache horse?—and felt connected to others who wore them.

The pom-pom socks were my favorite because they were fluffy, cute, and comfortable; the poms kept the socks from slipping into my Pumas. (And, our practical mother loved that they were less expensive than the T-shirts and jeans!)

Nearly half a century later, as I was watching my daughter play tennis for her high school team, I realized that her uniform was uninspired. I thought: Where’s the fun here? Play brings people together, it connects them, and it's enjoyable—how can we celebrate that?

Then it occurred to me: Why not bring back pom-pom socks for a new generation, but with two poms per sock—instead of one—for extra color, style, and spirit? In my mind, I pictured my daughter and her teammates sprinting around the court in their sporty new socks, with blue and green poms representing their school colors, and most important, their sense of joy and connection.

After talking to my sisters, whose kids also play high school sports, they agreed: There’s a need for playful, practical, and well-made accessories that can be worn by individuals or teams to express their sense of style and spirit. 

Introducing… Double Pom, sporty accessories that are designed to celebrate the joy that comes from connection and play. 
‍

And, because we believe that connection and play are vital to people and communities, we will be donating a portion of our profits and products to support recreational activities and sports programs for women and youth. 

It’s been about a year since we began our adventures in bringing Double Pom to life: creating, collaborating, designing, sourcing, marketing, budgeting, selling, and shipping. Now, we’re ready to launch. What color socks should we wear for the occasion?
